15th June: Natural Light Portraiture Workshop
In this complimentary beginner-friendly course, we’ll go over basic techniques that I’ve used for my portraits whenever I don’t have access to any form of artificial lighting, using concepts that translate over when you are able to use artificial lighting too.
First, we’ll meet at Leica Store Manchester, where I’ll introduce myself. We’ll go over a few bits of theory, including some of my favourite composition techniques that I’ve used on multiple commercial and personal shoots, as well as how to use and shape available light, or any light that we have no control over. In this case, the sun!
Then, we’ll head to a chosen location where we’ll meet with a model, stylist, and some of my team that I work with on my commercial shoots, before we take some photographs and I go over the techniques in more detail. Please note that it will be a much more condensed version of what I’d normally do on a shoot, but it’s not too strange that you barely get more than a minute to shoot commercial stills.
Following on from this, each attendee will get 5 minutes of shooting with the model, where they can put into practice anything that we go over, before we head back to Leica Store Manchester and go over a few simple editing techniques in Capture One, which can easily be replicated in your editing suite of choice.
This course will be completely free, compliments of Leica Store Manchester, who are kindly hosting the workshop.
Spaces on the course are strictly limited so I can give people the best possible feedback. I’m also very keen on giving this opportunity to local up and coming photographers. If you’re interested in a place on the course, please fill in the contact form at the bottom of this page, and I will be in contact to give you more details.
If you can’t make the course, or you just want some help, my DM’s are always open, and I’m always happy to help anybody, so don’t hesitate to ask me any questions.
What you’ll need to bring:
A digital camera and lens. If you do want to shoot on film and get your feedback when you get the images developed, that’s fine too!
An SD card
A notepad and pen!
An open mind and enthusiasm to learn
Weather-appropriate clothing
